A Classic Space With Modern Amenities
Manor Residence
An addition and renovation of a century-old Tudor-style duplex designed to maximize the space’s living, dining, and entertaining capabilities. The clients are two working professionals with a young child and another one on the way who love to entertain. The goal was to create a multi-functional space for an expanding family that still allowed them to host dinner parties and summer barbecues at a moment’s notice.
We began by increasing the square footage as much as possible to fit within zoning requirements by adding a carefully sized square volume behind the existing house. The original outdated kitchen and dining room was gutted to fit a powder room, laundry closet, and the new addition would house a contemporary kitchen with an integrative dining space. To save on space, the kitchen island itself was conceived to seamlessly merge with a breakfast bar, lounge seating, and dining table. Giant floor-to-ceiling glass patio doors opens into an outdoor deck and the side-lit allows additional views and sunlight to stream into the interiors. Weather treated wood slats were chosen as exterior cladding for the exterior to exude a soft, natural warm vibe and detailed to evoke a sense of depth.
